EPSIT (Endoscopic Pilonidal Sinus Treatment) with Laser

EPSiT (Endoscopic Pilonidal Sinus Treatment) is performed under local anesthesia and oral sedation. The external opening is excised and the endoscope is introduced through a small hole. Anatomy is identified, hair and debris are removed and the entire area is ablated by ND-YAG laser with fast recovery and limited risks (Dragoni F, Moretti S, Cannarozzo G, Campolmi P. Treatment of recurrent pilonidal cysts with nd-YAG laser: report of our experience. J Dermatol Treat 2018 Feb;29(1):65-67).

There are no significant complications; the pain during the postoperative period is minimal with low recurrence rates.

All patients are admitted and discharged on the same day as surgery and commenced work again after a mean time period of 4 days.

Aesthetic results are excellent. The key feature of the EPSiT technique with ND-YAG laser is direct vision, providing excellent results with quick healing and no risk of serious adverse side-effects. It is a very attractive alternative to open surgery, enabling patients to prevent the frequent and severe postoperative issues associated with surgery (Meinero P, Mori L, Galoli G. Endoscopic pilonidal sinus treatment (E.P.Si.T.). Tech Coloproctol 2014 Apr;18(4):389-92).
