Lips play an important role in facial aesthetics, and lip augmentation is one of the most frequently requested cosmetic procedures. Non-permanent fillers, such as hyaluronic acid, are used to augment the lips. A new study (Yazdanparast T et al. Assessment of the Efficacy and Safety of Hyaluronic Acid Gel Injection in the Restoration of Fullness of the Upper Lips. J Cutan Aesthet Surg 2017 Apr-Jun;10(2):101–105) demonstrated patient satisfaction with the improvement in their lips. Reported adverse events are temporary and mostly mild in severity. Hyaluronic acid was well tolerated, effective, and lasted up to 6 months when used for upper lip augmentation.
