Botox has been used in medicine since the 1970s for cosmetic and therapeutic purposes. Studies have shown positive results with very few complications and a duration of action of 3-5 months, although recent evidence suggests that changes in muscle function last longer. A new study (Crook JL et al. Long-term Effects of Repeated Botulinum Toxin Injection in Cosmetic Therapeutics. Ann Plast Surg 2022 Mar 1;88(3):345-352) examined the long-term effects of repeated Botox injections and indicated that further clinical studies are needed to better understand the potential benefit of repeated Botox treatments.
